A man who was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night in DeKalb County said he and the suspect attend the same church.

According to Channel 2 Action News, 22-year-old Melvin Bynum is accused of approaching the victim and two other people and demanding money to pay for his grandmother’s breast cancer surgery.

When Bynum learned the trio only had $80 between them, he allegedly forced them to drive to a Bank of America ATM on Wesley Chapel Road to get more money. On that drive, the victim said Bynum began sharing personal information.

“We ended up on the topic of church,” the victim told Channel 2. “He went to the same church as me, which is crazy.”
