Police investigated an apparent murder-suicide in Buckhead on Friday morning.

A woman’s 10-year-old son found her and her husband dead last week in their Buckhead apartment in an apparent murder-suicide — four days after she filed for divorce.

Just before 7 a.m. Friday, the child called 911 to report that his mother, Shameeka Carroll, and her husband, Randy Colbert, were both dead with gunshot wounds in the 1900 block of Howell Mill Road, according to an Atlanta police incident report obtained by AJC.com.

Carroll and Colbert, both 43, had one gunshot wound in each of their heads, the report said. Police found a fully loaded Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum revolver near Colbert along with two spent cartridges.

Police said it appeared Colbert shot Carroll before turning the gun on himself, the report said. There were no signs of forced entry into the home.

According to Fulton County court records, Carroll had filed for divorce last Monday. It’s unclear whether Colbert is the father of the child, and it’s unknown whose custody the child has been in since the incident.
