A shooting at a Cobb County apartment complex is now being investigated as a double homicide after a second man died, Cobb police Officer Alicia Chilton said Thursday.

The incident that led to the deaths of Deandre Brooks and Roderick Foster, both of Montgomery, Ala., happened at the Windwood Apartments in Austell on Wednesday night.

Officers responded about 7 p.m. to the 6900 block of Shenandoah Trail and found two men who had been shot, Chilton said.

The shooting left one person critically injured in Cobb County.

Brooks, 26, and Foster, 28, were taken to a local hospital, where both later died of their injuries.

Police told Channel 2 Action News the shooting happened while firefighters were on the scene to get a child out of a locked car. The firefighters were not hurt, the news station reported.

Police detained one person in the incident, officers told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It is unclear at this point if the person was involved in the shooting.

Officers are still looking for several other people who may have been involved, Channel 2 reported.

A motive has not been released.
