Police believe a young woman may have been lured onto a walking trail near a DeKalb County neighborhood park before being shot and killed Wednesday.

Shantrelle Monroe, 24, was found deceased on the trail near the Mainstreet playground outside of Stone Mountain, DeKalb police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer told AJC.com.

The body of Shantelle Monroe was found on a popular hiking trail on Stone Mountain.

DeKalb police’s homicide unit is investigating, and foul play is suspected. Investigators have not made any arrests or determined a possible motive.

Monroe’s body was found by hikers in the 900 block of Lake Drive Court around 3:45 p.m., Spencer said.

An investigation is ongoing.
