Atlanta police Wednesday were investigating an early morning shooting that left a 17-year-old boy dead and a girl, also 17, wounded.

Authorities responded shortly before 12:30 a.m. to a 911 call of two people shot between two buildings on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard near Mayson Turner Road, Atlanta Police Department spokesman Greg Lyon said in an email.

Upon arriving on the scene, police found one male and one female with gunshot wounds, he said.

Channel 2 Action News reported that Ontavious Brown of Atlanta died after being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, and that the girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition.

The General Investigations Unit interviewed the girl at the hospital and “several pieces of evidence” were photographed at the scene, Lyon said in the email.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting, or a description of any suspects.
