DeKalb police arrested a second man Friday afternoon on charges related to shots fired at a police officer and two other men last month, Capt. Steve Fore told The Atlanta-Journal-Constitution.

A patrol officer spotted a man shooting at two truck drivers who had parked their rigs in the Office Depot Plaza off Memorial Drive on Aug. 26, Fore said.

The gunman, seeing the officer, then jumped into a reddish-colored BMW SUV that left the scene and was driven by another man, Fore said.

When Master Officer Thomas Meason tried to pursue, one of the men in the BMW fired at the officer, Fore said. No one was injured by the gunshots and the men abandoned the BMW at Arbors at North Decatur apartments and fled, Fore said.

Rodriguez Knight, 28, was arrested Friday on aggravated assault charges, Fore said. Detectives arrested Brandon Litman, 27, the same day of the shooting. He was charged with aggravated assault and giving false statements, Fore said.

“Further investigation determined the suspects were trying to rob the victims, who had parked their tractor-trailers in the Office Depot Plaza,” DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said in August. “According to the victims, as they walked to a nearby restaurant, they were approached by one armed suspect who began to fire.”

The officer did not shoot at the men, Parish said.

Fore didn’t release details on how detectives located the suspects. Bullets broke windows of nearby businesses, putting a number of other people at risk, according to the police report.

“There were several patrons inside the (Somali Youth) Cafe when the bullet shattered the glass front door and lodged inside a wooden structure,” the report said.

Detectives located 11 spent shell casings after the shooting, Fore said.
