Two people have been charged with setting the fire that killed a man in DeKalb County last week.

Melvin Griffin, 27, and Jasmine Locket, 26, were charged with felony murder and arson in the blaze that killed Tony Hubert at The Parke on Covington Apartments on Covington Highway, Channel 2 Action News reported Friday.

DeKalb County fire Deputy Chief Norman Augustin said the Oct. 21 fire appeared to have started in the second-floor room where Hubert was found dead.

Hubert’s fiancé, Tomika Worthem was seriously injured in the fire when she said Hubert pushed her out of a window to save her. Her two teenage children jumped from the two-story brick building to safety.

Worthem told Channel 2 that Lockett and Griffin lived in abandoned apartments at the complex and she complained about it. She also said Lockett also argued with a neighbor, whose apartment also was damaged in the fire.

“They took my best friend, and that’s one thing I’ll never forget,” Worthem said.
