The driver of a tractor-trailer was struck and killed on the shoulder of I-85 Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

About 2:30 p.m., Aleksandr Petrovich, 57, of Asheville, NC, pulled to the side of southbound I-85 at Dry Pond Road and got out to inspect the back of his truck, Georgia State Patrol said in an email.

A box truck struck and killed the Petrovich and kept going toward Atlanta, which is about 55 miles from Monroe.

The state patrol is currently looking for the box truck, which witnesses told troopers had a graphic of a picture in a frame with green and red artwork and the word “foodservice” in the name.

The box truck may have had a light-skinned, 40-something-year-old man with a beard driving and the truck is missing its passenger side mirror.

Anyone with information on this vehicle, should contact GSP Athens at (706) 552-4439.
