A man was killed and two others were critically injured Wednesday night in an apartment shooting that “appears to be drug-related,” DeKalb County police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said.

Officers responding to a shots fired call about 10:40 p.m. arrived to find three people shot inside a downstairs unit of the Oak Forest Apartments on Hatton Drive.

The injured men, both in their early 30s, were taken to area hospitals in critical condition. The dead man was 28 years old. Identities of the victims were not released, pending family notification.

The incident began when at least one person “allegedly kicked open the front door and began shooting into the apartment,” Campbell said.

Six other people inside the apartment, including three children, were unharmed.

Police told Channel 2 Action News they have had a difficult time getting information from witnesses.

Crime scene technicians were on the scene Thursday getting pictures of a bullet that had pierced a window.
