The Westminster Schools in Buckhead was one of two schools placed on lockdown Monday, officials said.

“It appears that (Westminster) was locked down due to a suspect that fled from Georgia State Patrol in the area” of I-75, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said in a statement.

According to the GSP, a trooper attempted to stop a Nissan Rogue traveling south at Akers Mill Road at 103 mph.

“The vehicle, which was stolen, fled,” the GSP said. “The trooper performed a PIT maneuver south of West Paces Ferry Road. At that time, the stolen vehicle spun out of control. The suspect fled on foot and has not been apprehended at this time.”

All afternoon activities at Westminster were canceled, according to a note on the school’s website.

Morris Brandon Elementary School, part of the Atlanta Public Schools system, was on a “soft” lockdown, which means exterior doors were locked and no one was allowed in the building in the 2800 block of Margaret Mitchell Drive. The lockdown lasted for 15 minutes, district spokesman Seth Coleman told Channel 2 Action News.

“Normal operations were not impacted and the school day proceeded as usual,” he said.
