Traffic stop leads to $1M drug bust in Sandy Springs

Noting an illegal turn and reading body language helped Sandy Springs police seize drugs worth about $1 million this month, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Officers arrested two men in the Nov. 11 incident at Roswell Road and Dunwoody Place, Channel 2 reported.

“It was a great investigative stop,” Capt. Mike Lindstrom said. “(The officer) obviously paid attention to some of the cues that were given to him by the driver and the passenger.”

A witness who spoke to Channel 2 anonymously said the suspects’ car made an illegal left turn at the location, and that was why it was pulled over by police. While questioning the two people in the car, the officer said the passenger pointed to the trunk area, Channel 2 reported.

Lindstrom said the officer then found two coolers and boxes originally labeled for baby diapers. On inspection, the containers held methamphetamine, heroin and crack cocaine.

Police arrested Israel Arriga-Geron and Oswaldo Villegas for felony drug trafficking, Channel 2 reported. Investigators also are trying to determine the source and destination of the drugs.
