After an unidentified toddler was found Thursday evening on the side of a highway, Newton County authorities Friday said they have found the boy’s mother.

About 5:30-6 p.m. Thursday, the toddler was found secured in a car seat on the side of Ga. 11 in Covington, sheriff’s spokesman Cortney Morrison said.

The boy appeared to have no injuries but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, Morrison said.

Investigators interviewed the mother to try to determine why the child was left on the side of the road and who was responsible for him at the time, sheriff’s officials said in a Facebook post.

The lead investigator will interview the mother again Friday to try to verify her story, according to the post.
