A man was found shot to death near a northwest Atlanta church from what police believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“Our initial investigation is indicating that the death appears to be consistent with a suicide,” Atlanta police Officer Lisa Bender said.

Someone walking to work about 4:30 a.m. discovered the man across from Antioch Baptist Church North on Northside Drive and Cameron M Alexander Boulevard and called 911. He’d been shot in the head, Lt. Carven Tyus said.

The victim’s name has not been released, but Atlanta police said he is 27 years old.

“Anyone who saw anything or heard anything around 4:30 this morning, we’re urging them to call the Atlanta Police Department, not the homicide unit,” Tyus said.
