A Texas woman was hit with her fourth felony conviction, but this time it was in North Georgia.

Robin Denise Harper, 33, of Dallas, was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole for assaulting two detention officers at the Whitfield County jail in December, Conasauga Judicial Circuit District Attorney Bert Poston said in a news release.

On Dec. 26, she was being taken to a padded cell by a male and female officer, both of whom were with the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, the release said. When they approached the cell, Harper kicked the female officer in the stomach before hitting the male officer, the jury found.

She then hit the female officer with her arms and handcuffs that she was wearing before continuing to kick the woman in the head after the officer fell over, the release said. The incident ended when another officer used a Taser on her.

The female officer had to be taken to Hamilton Medical Center’s emergency room.

Harper’s prior felony convictions happened in Texas, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two cases that involved felony assaults against detention officers, the release said. The DA’s office said those previous convictions are why Harper will not be eligible for parole.

She was convicted May 22 after a one-day trial and 45 minutes of deliberation by the jury, the release said. She was found guilty of one count of aggravated assault on a peace officer, two counts of unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution and two counts of felony obstruction.

Harper also pleaded guilty to unrelated charges of misdemeanor battery and obstruction. Those sentences will run concurrently with her 20 years, the release said.
