Police in Conroe, Texas, have arrested and charged a 12-year-old after a 10-year-old boy was shot and later died.

KTRK reported that the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to calls of a shooting Saturday afternoon. According to authorities, the boy was shot in the chest area by his sibling. He was taken to an emergency room, where he later died.

An investigation followed and the 12-year-old, whose gender was not specified, according to the Dallas Morning News, was arrested.

"Based on the investigation conducted by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office a 12-year-old juvenile sibling has been charged with murder and is currently in custody in the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Facility," MCTX Lt. Scott Spencer said in a statement.

No other details were provided.
