Two 19-year-olds were killed Thursday in separate crashes in southern Cobb County, police said.

About 9:45 p.m., officers responded to a call about a stolen vehicle near Austell and located the white Honda HR-V on Hillcrest Drive.

The driver sped away when police attempted to stop the car near Shenandoah Trail, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk said in a news release. Police called off the pursuit, but the driver continued south, crossing the intersection at Six Flags Parkway before crashing into a tree on the side of the road, Delk said.

The driver, 19-year-old Marquisse Haynes of Atlanta, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Four other teenagers in the car were taken to hospitals with serious injuries, authorities said.

About four hours earlier, a 19-year-old Powder Springs man was struck by an SUV and killed as he pushed his bicycle across a busy street.

The pedestrian, identified by police as Carlos Campos, was crossing Powder Springs Road at Flint Hill Road when he walked into the path of a Chevrolet Traverse, Delk said. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.

The driver of the vehicle that struck him, a 54-year-old Powder Springs woman, was not charged, authorities said.

Both crashes remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Cobb police at 770-499-3987.
