Two teen boys were charged in connection with the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy, Clayton County police said.

Officers found Quinterius Wooten in the back yard of a residence Thursday about 7:15 p.m. on Boca Grande Boulevard in Forest Park, spokeswoman Ashanti Marbury said. He had a gunshot wound and died after being taken to a hospital.

The 14-and 15-year olds with Wooten told officers he was shot in a drive-by shooting, Marbury said.

Investigators quickly determined the boys weren’t being honest, and they found that the 15-year-old was the actual shooter, Marbury said.

A confession given to detectives said he accidentally shot Wooten while playing with a gun as the boys were smoking marijuana in a shed behind the residence, police said.

The gun that fired the deadly shot was recovered and was found to have been stolen from a vehicle in Ellenwood about two weeks ago.

The shooter was charged as a juvenile with involuntary manslaughter, possession of a weapon by a minor, and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, Marbury said. The 14-year-old was charged with obstruction of an officer.

Their names weren’t released because they are juveniles.
