A Clayton County teenager was shot and killed during an attempted robbery Saturday night.

Cherish Williams, 18, of Jonesboro, was sitting in a car with two friends in the Independence Park parking lot about 7:40 p.m., Clayton County police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

Three armed men ordered Williams and her friends to get out of the car and to hand over their personal belongings, Marbury said.

Someone fired a shot that hit Williams and all three armed men ran off.

Williams died shortly after reaching a nearby hospital.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Clayton County Police Department at 770-477-3513 or to dial 911.
