Henry County police are seeking the public’s help after a 16-year-old pedestrian was killed in an apparent hit-and-run incident.

About 9:30 p.m. Monday, Tasia Gartner and a friend were walking along Ga. 81 in McDonough, police spokesman Mike Ireland said.

The friend crossed the highway successfully, but Gartner was hit by a car in the westbound lane when she attempted to cross, Ireland said. Her body came to rest on the north shoulder of the road. She was pronounced dead about 10:30 p.m.

The vehicle drove away from the scene without stopping, Ireland said.

The car is described as a silver or gray 2007 or 2008 Honda Fit, police said in a Facebook post. It should have damage to the front bumper, hood, windshield and possibly the roof and passenger side.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 770-288-8200.
