A man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after an hourslong SWAT standoff at a Gwinnett County home, police said.

Ricardo Andrio was arrested and charged with simple assault, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the incident, according to a Gwinnett incident report obtained by AJC.com.

Police were sent to the home in the 700 block of Kenion Forest Way in Lilburn about 5 a.m. Sunday.

A 911 caller initially reported that a man fired a shot inside the home.

According to the incident report, Andrio’s girlfriend and her children were in the home when the suspect returned from being out all night. The girlfriend told police she and Andrio got into an argument, but she couldn’t understand what he was saying because he was “intoxicated and mumbling.”

Andrio and the woman went into the master bedroom, where the argument continued. Her son followed. At some point, police said Andrio retrieved a gun.

The girlfriend told police she was standing in the closet of the master bedroom with her son when she heard a sound she did not recognize. Her son said it was a gunshot.

“In a panic they both left from the closet,” the incident report said. The son told police the master bedroom was covered in a fog from the discharge of the gun.

The girlfriend and her son woke up another child, and all three left the house. They called police from a nearby Publix store, the report said. None of them were hurt.

Police soon surrounded the home and tried to get Andrio to come outside. A SWAT team was called because he was armed.

“Multiple attempts were made to contact the suspect, and he did not exit the residence,” police said.

The SWAT team searched the home, and Andrio was taken into custody. The scene was cleared about 5 p.m., officials said.

Police learned Andrio was previously convicted of a felony. Details about that case have not been released.

Andrio was booked into the Gwinnett jail, where he remains in lieu of a $13,600 bond.
