A gunman remained on the loose early Wednesday after an overnight robbery attempt at a Kennesaw fast food restaurant.

The incident began about 1 a.m. Wednesday when a man entered the McDonald’s on Cobb Parkway at Old U.S. 41, pulled a gun and ordered restaurant employees to empty the cash registers and give him their cell phones and wallets.

The employees scattered and ran from the building, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Unsure if the gunman was still inside the building, a police SWAT team was called to the scene, and Cobb Parkway was shut down for several hours.

But when SWAT officers entered the restaurant about 4 a.m., they found no one inside.

“The detectives have gone in; they’re going to collect all the evidence they can,” Kennesaw police spokesman Scott Luther told Channel 2.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
