One man may be behind the thefts of 15 washers, dryers and refrigerators from a Marietta appliance store in the past three weeks, Channel 2 Action News reported Monday.

Eugene Perkins was arrested by Marietta police for allegedly stealing the heavy items by himself, Channel 2 reported.

A truck used by the burglar had a license plate for a disabled person.

“Fridges are 300-400 pounds,” owner Fred Stanfield of Smith’s Appliances said. “Washers and dryers are about 200 pounds.”

Perkins lives in Rockmart, according to jail records, about an hour’s drive from Marietta.

The store owner said the suspect would strike by day or night to steal used appliances from the back lot. The goods he allegedly took were worth about $2,000.

“Finally,” Stanfield said, “we were able to nab the guy.”

Perkins is charged with felony theft by taking and criminal trespass for an unlawful purpose, a misdemeanor, Channel 2 reported.

Now, the owner is thinking of getting a new fence for his lot, as well as new surveillance cameras.

“It baffles me. I don’t know,” Stanfield said. “You know, I’m just glad that he’s off the street.”
