The GBI has released new details in the shooting of a Cobb County man Sunday morning by two Austell police officers.

Agency spokesman Scott Dutton identified 31-year-old Paul Duffy as the man shot multiple times after allegedly wrestling a Taser from one of the Austell police officers and delivering multiple shocks. Duffy was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Before the confrontation between Duffy and police turned violent, paramedics were able to evacuate two of the suspect’s children through an upstairs window at his home on Whitewater Court.

Even after he was shot, Duffy “continued to attack the officers” and refused to drop the Taser, according to GBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Brian Whidby. He was eventually subdued by Austell and Cobb County police officers and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

“Multiple officers” were also sent to the hospital for treatment but were later released, the GBI said.

Dutton said the officers’ names would be released in a few days. The investigation is ongoing.
