SWAT team members have taken a DeKalb County stabbing suspect into custody after a standoff that lasted several hours.
DeKalb police spokesman Capt. S.R. Fore said authorities were notified about 9 a.m. Wednesday of a man being stabbed at the Memorial Inn on Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain.
“As officers arrived the suspect was pointed out by witnesses and he fled on foot into Willow Run Apartments,” Fore said.
The suspect, identified later as 41-year-old Christopher J. Was, remained in an apartment for several hours while authorities attempted to make contact with him. The standoff ended shortly after 1 p.m. and Was was taken into custody without incident and charged with aggravated assault, Fore said.
There were no injuries during the standoff, Fore said.
Authorities said the unidentified stabbing victim was believed to be in critical but stable condition.
No further information was immediately available.
