Police are searching for whoever stole a car that had a 3-year-old boy inside Monday morning before abandoning it minutes later.

The car was stolen in the 5400 block of Sierra Trail about 6:30 a.m., South Fulton police spokesman Jubal Rogers confirmed to AJC.com. Minutes after receiving a 911 call about the incident, the vehicle was found abandoned with the child still inside.

The child, who was unharmed, was returned home, Rogers said.

Rogers told Channel 2 Action News on Tuesday that the vehicle was recovered at the intersection of South Fulton Parkway and Stonewall Tell Road, which is about two miles from where it was stolen.

Officers searched the area and were unable to find the suspect. Channel 2 reported the suspect is a light-skinned black male in his teens. He was last seen in a tank top and blue shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Fulton police at 470-809-7300.
