A Conyers man was arrested and charged Friday in a bizarre crime spree that left a woman homeless, police said. He was found sleeping in a stolen car.

Daniel Keith Vikery was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, hijacking a vehicle and possession of a weapon, according to a release from Henry County police.

The series of events started Oct. 8 when Henry County officers were called to Hemphill Road in Stockbridge about a report that landscapers were robbed at gunpoint, according to the release. The alleged gunman, later identified as Vikery, took the workers’ cell phones and fled in a Red Dodge Caravan, police said.

About 3 p.m. that day, fire fighters were called to a car and house fire along Boulevard Drive also in Stockbridge.

Vikery allegedly drove the stolen van to a home, and according to police, set the car on fire. The car fire spread to 83-year-old Jewel Miller’s home while she was still inside.

She safely escaped the fire.

Officers were later called to a second armed robbery about 9:15 p.m. along North Highland Circle. In this incident, Vikery allegedly held the victims at gunpoint and stole their cellphones and car, a Toyota Corolla.

A week after the alleged crime spree, police found Vikery on Friday asleep in the car and arrested by Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office authorities. Police did not release how they found Vikery’s whereabouts.
