A skeleton and skull found Monday in Newton County will be sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy and identification, police said.

The remains were found off City Pond Road in Covington, the city’s police department said. Investigators canvassed the area for any clues to the remains, Capt. Craig Treadwell told Channel 2 Action News.

No further details were released.
