A woman said she saw a man watching her from her rear view mirror, but that didn’t prevent her from getting robbed, Sandy Springs police said.

The 63-year-old woman pulled into a Chase Bank ATM on Roswell Road shortly after 10 p.m. Sept. 14, according to a police report.

First, she made a deposit and then she withdrew cash.

“Don’t worry,” an unidentified man with a gun pointed at her face said, police wrote in the report.

Capt. Mike Lindstrom called the robbery “crazy for Sandy Springs” in an interview with Channel 2 Action News.

The man in blue jeans and a blue hooded-sweatshirt pushed the woman with his free hand and reached into her car.

He grabbed the $500 she had just taken out of the ATM along with her wallet and two iPhones.

The money she had was meant for her rent, according to the report, and the man got away with about $2,000.

But the attack didn’t stop there.

As the man walked out of the bank parking lot, the woman followed him in her car and tried to block him.

“He was able to elude her vehicle and then she heard gunshots, several gunshots, at which time we found her vehicle had been struck two times,” Lindstrom told Channel 2.

Though police understood why the woman was upset, they caution residents to stay aware of their surroundings and don’t chase suspects —especially if they have a weapon.
