One man was arrested and three people were taken to a hospital Tuesday afternoon after a shooting in Marietta, authorities said.
James Jessie Rodriguez, 28, of Smyrna, was arrested by Marietta police and charged with eight felonies, including aggravated battery and aggravated assault, after a dispute on Cobb Parkway ended up in the parking lot of a Dollar King store.
Rodriguez, who was injured in the shooting, received treatment at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on Thursday after he was released from medical care, Glenn Daniel of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to police, the dispute began as Rodriguez drove alongside a car on Cobb Parkway and made verbal threats to shoot multiple people, who he knew. The argument moved from the road to the parking lot of Dollar King at 1869 Cobb Parkway South, where the victims of Rodriguez’s threats parked and got out of their vehicle.
Police said the men who were threatened then told Roland Thomas, who was standing in front of the store. When Rodriguez exited his truck with a silver handgun, Thomas drew his own handgun and fired one shot, hitting Rodriguez in the torso, police said.
Thomas, a 36-year-old from Fairburn, was shot in the arm when Rodriguez returned fire. He was treated and released from Kennestone on Tuesday night.
A bystander, Angel Collado, 33, of Doraville, was also shot in the torso. Police did not provide an update on his condition.
Based on the evidence, authorities are not seeking charges against Thomas at this time, Marietta police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy said.
