After an encounter with Tropical Storm Hermine, Savannah endured a violent Labor Day weekend that included seven shooting incidents, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan police said.

Two people were killed in the violence, the Savannah Morning News reported. The city has had 39 homicides this year, ahead of the 2015 pace that was the city’s most violent year since 1991.

Preliminary investigations suggest that most of the weekend shootings weren’t random acts of violence, a police spokeswoman said. Several incidents involved acquaintances, police said.

Savannah is about 250 miles southeast of Atlanta.
