Riverdale police are looking for a gunman who fired multiple shots at a moving car, killed the driver and caused the vehicle to flip off the road and hit a tree.

About 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Riverdale police officers responded to the area of Roy Huie Road and Camp Street regarding possible gun shots, Riverdale police Lt. Nicole Rabel said.

A neighbor heard the gunman fire at least eight shots from the Noble Oaks/Twelve Oaks apartments, police told Channel 2 Action News. At least one of the gunshots hit the driver as he traveled on Roy Huie Drive.

“During the investigation, officers located an overturned vehicle in the wood line,” Rabel said.

A man in the driver’s seat was unresponsive, and police later determined he had been shot and died of his injury.

“This case remains open and is currently being investigated by the Riverdale Police Department,” Rabel said.

Police have not released any information about the dead driver or the person wanted in connection with the fatal shooting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was assisting in the ongoing investigation early Monday.
