Cherokee County deputies have not decided whether charges will be filed in the stabbing death early Sunday morning of an Acworth man.

Jayquan Smallwood, 22, was killed after he attacked his landlord, Nolan Hoad, with a knife in a dispute over money, said Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee sheriff’s office. Hoad’s brother Cloyse Hoad, also armed with a knife, was inside the Hidden Falls mobile home park at the time and managed to pull Smallwood off his sibling, Baker said.

In the ensuing fracas, according to witnesses, Smallwood was stabbed three times in the chest by Cloyse Hoad. Smallwood was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died later that morning. Nolan Hoad, who had rented Smallwood a room inside the mobile home he shared with his wife and three children, sustained minor injuries to his shoulder.

The investigation continues, Baker said.
