Sex assault defendant asked to see student victim

June 30, 2016

A former Gwinnett County teacher charged with having sex with one of her students asked to see the student while the case is pending, court records show.

Julee Impara, arrested in February on sexual assault charges, filed the request in Gwinnett County Superior Court on June 7, saying the “alleged victim does not feel victimized and does not believe a crime occurred.” The student, now 18, asked that Impara’s bond agreement be modified so they can have contact with each other and wants the charges dismissed, Impara’s motion said.

Impara’s attorney withdrew the request Wednesday, said Christopher George, a prosecutor in the district attorney’s office. Her attorney, Sandra Gerald, could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.

Impara, who was 48 when she was arrested, was a language arts teacher at Mill Creek High School, became involved with the unidentified student last year, authorities said.

The two began having sexual contact outside of school and Impara picked up the victim at his home on occasion, police said.

The boy’s parents discovered the relationship between their son and his teacher when they found several inappropriate messages between them, Gwinnett school officials said.

Impara resigned in December.
