A DeKalb County man was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he was convicted of home burglaries in Cobb County, an official said Tuesday.
A jury last week convicted Barry Lynn Gibson, 55, of Stone Mountain, of stealing guns, electronics and jewelry from two Marietta homes in 2014, said Kim Isaza, the spokeswoman for Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds.
Gibson also pleaded guilty in 2016 to four residential burglaries in DeKalb, according to Cobb prosecutors.
Investigators linked the Cobb thefts to Gibson after the items were tracked to pawn shops in metro Atlanta, Isaza said.
Authorities also found that Gibson was a suspect in the residential burglaries in DeKalb, according to Isaza. Those incidents happened within seven weeks of the first Cobb burglary.
“Not only is this defendant a serial burglar, but he is also a convicted felon who was breaking into homes and stealing firearms, and then selling the firearms on the streets,” Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Adrean said. “Who buys firearms on the street? Other convicted felons and gang members.”
After the 30-year prison sentence, Gibson will be on probation for 10 years.
