Late Friday night, a Sandy Springs police officer spotted a car without headlights or taillights traveling on Ga. 400.

Minutes later, the officer had a Macon murder suspect in handcuffs.

During the 11 p.m. traffic stop, police learned that the vehicle’s driver, 20-year-old Kendarius Trevon Hill, had an active murder warrant out of Bibb County, Sandy Springs police said in a Facebook post. Hill was taken into custody without incident.

Last Tuesday, Bibb County deputies responded to a deadly shooting at the Riverwalk Apartment off Riverside Drive, the sheriff’s office said. Douglas Wilmale Stevenson, 22, was found unresponsive in a parked vehicle about 9:25 p.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned that a large crowd gathered near one of the apartment buildings, leading to a fight breaking out and shots being fired, the sheriff’s office said. Stevenson was shot multiple times during the incident. He was the only person injured.

The sheriff’s office did not say how its investigators tied Hill to the deadly shooting.

Hill was taken to the Bibb County jail, where he remains without bond.

The shooting remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500 or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-682-7463
