The case against the man accused of killing two 17-year-olds behind a Roswell Publix is scheduled to be presented to the grand jury on Sept. 30, according to Fulton County court records.

Jeffrey Hazelwood has been charged with murder in the Aug. 1 shooting deaths of Natalie Henderson and Carter Davis. The 20-year-old was arrested Aug. 3 and remained Thursday in the Fulton jail, where he is being held without bond.

After watching the teenagers for about 20 minutes, Hazelwood told police he opened the back door of Henderson’s SUV with one hand while holding a gun with the other. Within minutes, Hazelwood shot both teens in the head, police said. He then left the scene and then returned to steal Henderson’s bank card, which he later used, and jumper cables belonging to Davis, according to police.

Hazelwood's own SUV, a silver Honda Passport, and his long, dark hair helped police identify him as the lone suspect in the killings. In interviews with detectives, Hazelwood described how he killed the teenagers but did not provide a motive.

Fulton District Attorney Paul Howard has not said whether he intends to seek the death penalty against Hazelwood, whose attorneys say he has several mental health disorders.
