A Rome surgeon was arrested after allegedly raping a woman in Athens, rupturing the woman’s eardrum during the attack, authorities said.

Zachary Forrest Solomon, 34, faces four felonies after the alleged incident Oct. 13, which took place in an apartment off Wood Lake Drive, according to an Athens police report obtained by AJC.com. Police said the 27-year-old victim knew Solomon, but it’s unclear how they knew each other.

Solomon is accused of choking the woman and hitting her on the side of her head, causing her eardrum to rupture, according to arrest warrants obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald. The alleged attack took place between 1 and 3 a.m., the incident report said.

He was arrested last Wednesday and charged with rape, aggravated assault, aggravated sodomy, aggravated battery and misdemeanor battery, Clarke County jail records show.

Solomon worked at the Harbin Clinic in Rome as a cardiac surgeon since February, but he "tendered his resignation" last week, the clinic said in a statement to the Rome News-Tribune.

He remains in jail without bond.
