A Richmond County deputy has returned to duty after being cleared of any wrongdoing in the shooting of a 33-year-old man last month, the Augusta Chronicle reported.

Deputy Ray Parker returned from paid administrative leave after he was cleared by the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office in connection with the July 14 shooting, the newspaper reported.

Parker shot Malik Williamson after Williamson refused to drop a knife during an arrest, the GBI previously told AJC.com.

Deputies were called to the area of 12th and Maxwell streets in Augusta about 5 a.m. after receiving a call about someone shooting a gun, authorities said.

Williamson reportedly refused to comply with Parker’s commands and pulled a knife with a brass knuckle handle from his waistband as he walked away, prompting the deputy to fire, authorities said.

Deputies performed CPR on the man until EMS personnel arrived and took him to Augusta University Medical Center. Williamson survived his wounds, but has not been charged, according to the Chronicle.
