Police are investigating allegations that one of their officers dislocated the shoulder of one of 15 people arrested on the fifth night of protests in Atlanta.

Kevin Moran, 68, told Channel 2 Action News he asked the officer not to handcuff him because he had a pre-existing injury. He was one of 14 people arrested Monday night near Lenox Square on obstructing traffic charges. Another person, 22-year-old Kentre’vious Hightower, was arrested on a charge of failing to use required bicycle equipment.

Moran was being held at the Atlanta Grady Detention Center Wednesday, Atlanta police Officer Kim Jones said.

“This matter has been referred to the Atlanta Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards, which will investigate further into these allegations,” she said.

The Buckhead incident wasn’t the first time Moran was arrested.

He was booked in the county jail a total of three times in 2014, Fulton County sheriff’s spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said.

In one of those incidents, he was arrested with seven others during a sit-in at the State Capitol over voter registration problems.
