Officials said Friday they have made "substantial progress" in resolving an error that caused many driver's licenses to be erroneously suspended.
“We can now report that a majority of errantly suspended Georgia driver’s licenses have been identified and the suspensions have been removed,” Spalding County State Court Judge Josh Thacker said in a news release.
“Although this matter has not been fully resolved,” Thacker added, “we have made substantial progress towards correcting this error.”
The problem began earlier this year when Spalding County began electronically submitting traffic ticket dispositions to the state Department of Driver Services.
Because of the error, officials “inadvertently resubmitted” many citations.
So anyone who got a traffic ticket in the county in the past few years may have had a “temporary negative impact” on their driver’s license.
The DDS released this statement: “The Department of Driver Services immediately engaged our Legal, Information Technology and Georgia Electronic Conviction Processing System teams to investigate the issue. DDS continues to work in tandem with the State Court of Spalding County to correct the driver records that were affected.”
