The Newton County deputy accidentally shot Friday during a training exercise remained in the hospital two days later, but officials said the outlook is positive.
Newton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Keith Crum said Sunday morning that the deputy, whose identity has not been released, remained in the hospital following “successful” leg surgery.
“The prognosis is good,” Crum said.
The deputy was taken to Atlanta Medical Center on Friday afternoon after being shot at a Lower River Road gun range, where Newton deputies were participating in active shooter training. The deputy was shot by another deputy around 3 p.m., officials said Friday.
What went wrong remained unclear.
“We need to identify if there are any issues we need to address, and, if so, address them immediately,” sheriff’s office Sgt. Michael Cunningham said Friday.
