A probationer was critically wounded Friday in an exchange of gunfire with officers in Dodge County, the Macon Telegraph reported.

Kyle Hutson Coleman was flown to a Macon hospital after the incident in Gresston, the newspaper reported.

About 10:30 a.m., Coleman’s probation officer visited him in a mobile home park, GBI agent Scott Whitley said.

Coleman ran from the officer, who chased him along with a Dodge County sheriff’s deputy onto church property, the newspaper reported.

“There was an exchange of gunfire ... and the probationer was shot,” Whitley said.

The GBI is investigating the incident, which is routine in officer-involved shootings.

Friday's incident was in the same county where Eastman police officer Tim Smith was fatally shot in August.
