June 24, 2016

Gwinnett County police say they have identified the people accused of shooting a good Samaritan after he tried to break up a fight.

Witnesses told police two couples were arguing in the parking lot of the Tavern on Medlock Bridge Road shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Deshawn Poole, 24, allegedly shot 45-year-old Thomas Rushworth in the head, when Rushworth tried to break up the fight.

Poole is wanted for aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Poole was allegedly last seen running away from the Tavern toward the Country Club Village Apartments following the shooting.

Police have also taken out warrants against three other people in connection with the shooting: Roland Hines, 23; Destiny Lopez, 21; and Germikia Williams, 22, the woman who allegedly ran off with Poole after the shooting.

Rushworth was in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center Friday.
