Police search for vandal who stole, wrecked Gainesville patrol car

Police are searching for whoever broke into a Gainesville patrol car, took it for a joyride and then wrecked it Sunday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., the cop car was stolen from the 100 block of Paces Court, which is within the Paces Landing Apartments, Gainesville police said in a news release. Forced entry was made into the vehicle.

A window was broken so the suspect could enter the patrol car, police said.

The car was in a minor crash a short distance away from the apartment complex, and the vandal abandoned it, the release said. Safety features equipped in the vehicle alerted officers to its location.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 770-535-5165.
