Police: Marietta man tried to throw woman to her death off 5th-story hotel balcony

A Marietta man faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault with intent to murder, after he allegedly tried to throw a woman off a fifth-story balcony last week, authorities said.

Gregory Allen Scott, 33, was arrested last Tuesday after the incident at the Economy Hotel at 2100 Northwest Parkway, according to Marietta police arrest warrants.

About 5:30 p.m. that day, he got into a fight with the woman while in a hotel room and attempted to kill her by throwing her off the balcony, the warrants said. He’s accused of trying to grab the woman’s clothing so he could lift her over the balcony.

He also faces two misdemeanor battery charges in connection with the incident. He kicked and struck the same woman in her face and head in addition to pushing another woman to the ground, causing her to hit her head on the asphalt, the warrants said.

Scott’s relationship to the two woman was not provided in the warrants.

In addition to those three charges, he faces counts of possession of a misdemeanor amount of marijuana and probation violation.

Scott has served two stints in prison since 2005, according to Georgia Department of Corrections records.

He spent about nine years in prison after being convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle, obstruction, terroristic threats and firearm possession in 2004 in Cobb County, GDC records show. He also spent about nine months behind bars in 2016.

Scott remains in the Cobb County jail without bond.
