Police: Man told undercover Gwinnett cop that he wanted to molest 14-year-old girl

When a Bogart man drove to Oconee Veterans Park last week, he believed he was going to meet a 14-year-old girl, authorities said.

However, he only met with deputies after being caught in a Gwinnett County child sex sting, according to police.

Cory Dylan Cheatham, 22, was arrested Thursday after he messaged an undercover officer that he wanted to meet a child for sex, according to a Gwinnett police incident report obtained by AJC.com.

The investigation began Feb. 11 and lasted until his arrest, the report said. Cheatham messaged the undercover detective — believing the officer was a 14-year-old girl — and engaged in sexually explicit conversations, police said.

He planned to meet the person he was messaging to have sex, which is why he agreed to meet at the park, the report said. When he arrived, Oconee County deputies assisted with taking him into custody.

He was booked into the Oconee County Jail on five felony charges, which consist of four counts of obscene internet contact with a child and one count of using a computer to entice a child to commit an illegal act.

He remains in jail without bond, according to online jail records. It’s unclear whether he will be extradited to Gwinnett to face his charges.
