A man claiming to be homeless robbed a Norcross hotel after doing some work there earlier the same day, Gwinnett County police said.
On July 16 about 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the Comfort Inn and Suites on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said. The manager told officers he hired the man to work at the hotel earlier in the day, Pihera said. The manager gave him $20 and a pizza as payment.
The man told the manager he was originally from Ohio and had previously been arrested in Georgia for burglary, Pihera said.
In the evening, the man came back to the hotel lobby, Pihera said. He used the desk clerk’s phone to call the manager, and demanded more money.
The manager refused, and the man hung up, Pihera said. After the clerk got the phone back, she went to the back room. The man then jumped onto the counter, opened the cash drawer and stole several hundred dollars, surveillance video showed. He passed several hotel guests as he left through the front door.
The man is described as in his 20s, and about 6 feet and 190 pounds, Pihera said.
