A man was shot to death Wednesday morning in southwest Atlanta, police said.

The incident took place in the 800 block of Brookline Street. Lt. Charles Hampton of Atlanta police said Tuesday that officers found the victim, in his late teens, on the front porch of the residence when they responded about 9:15 a.m. A handgun was recovered on the porch, Hampton said.

Police are not sure whether this is a homicide or a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim had a head injury, Hampton said. Police will wait on the autopsy before releasing further details.

Neighbors heard at least one gunshot, Hampton said. The investigation is ongoing.
