Police investigate carjackings at Lenox Mall, OK Cafe

June 16, 2016

Atlanta police are investigating two separate carjackings that happened Monday.

Anita Thomas, 71, told police that she and her two granddaughters, ages 14 and 12, were approached by a man with a gun in the Neiman Marcus parking deck at Lenox Square. The man demanded her keys and phone, according to an incident report. The woman tossed her keys and phone to the carjacker and told her granddaughters to run.

The carjacker got into the car, a blue 2015 Mercedes Benz, and sped away. A bystander called police.

The vehicle was found later that day, but Thomas’s phone and keys remain missing and a suspect had not yet been identified.

Also, a couple was carjacked Monday outside of OK Cafe in northwest Atlanta. The carjacker approached the couple and demanded their keys at gunpoint before taking off down I-75 in the vehicle, police said.

Officer Lukasz Sajdak, a spokesman for Atlanta police, said officers managed to track the car, but the carjacker took off in a different vehicle and escaped.

The investigation is ongoing.
