The drowning death of a 2-year-old in her family’s pool Sunday afternoon was a “tragic accident,” Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap said Tuesday.

The mother of Sophia Canty found the girl in the pool of the family’s Cartersville home shortly after she noticed that the girl was not inside their Earle Drive home, Millsap said in a news release.

Bartow County Fire and EMS took the child to Cartersville Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. An autopsy determined that the child died of drowning with no other injuries.

Millsap said no charges were filed.
